FLEXVIEW: Unique object detection for perfect point clouds even on challenging surfaces

Optonic’s unique FlexView technology increases the level of detail in disparity maps for static scenes by slightly shifting a projector mask using piezo mechanics. As a result, the system projects different patterns onto the same scene and captures multiple image pairs. The stereo matching algorithm combines these recordings, uses more image points, and thereby increases the effective resolution and detail accuracy of disparity images and point clouds. At the same time, FlexView improves robustness on challenging surfaces such as dark, glossy, or reflective materials, as the varying patterns provide additional visual information. The resulting data contains less noise and is better suited for further algorithms. Overall, FlexView reduces the effort required for post-processing and significantly accelerates subsequent 3D processing steps.

Software for Precise 3D Vision and Reliable Part Localization

The Ensenso SDK is the central software platform for all Ensenso stereo vision cameras and covers the entire workflow of industrial 3D image processing from initial setup and calibration to highly precise point cloud processing. Powerful tools such as a network assistant, GPU-accelerated computations (CUDA), interactive analysis features, and flexible calibration procedures including hand-eye calibration enable fast integration into robotics and automation systems. Functions for multi-camera systems, scene simulation, and remote access support development, testing, and operation — even across multiple locations.

The PartFinder add-on extends the system with robust CAD-based part localization. Custom CAD models can be directly identified within point clouds and their pose and position determined even with complex geometries or similar part variants. GPU-optimized processing, interactive parameterization, and the use of depth, normal, and texture data ensure high detection rates with short setup and cycle times. Together, the SDK and PartFinder provide a comprehensive and powerful solution for precise 3D measurement, inspection, and robotics applications.

Ensenso Software Development Kit

EnsensoSDK provides full access to all Ensenso stereo vision cameras and supports setup, calibration, and processing of highly precise 3D data from initial implementation to integration into sophisitcated applications.

  • Full camera access for setup, calibration, and 3D data processing

  • Precise point cloud generation with analysis tools and GPU acceleration (CUDA)

  • Convenient tools such as network assistant, firmware updates, and interactive evaluation

  • Intuitive calibration wizard including hand-eye calibration for robotics

  • Support for multi-camera systems, scene simulation, and remote testing

Intelligent robotics for industrial laundries

The textile and apparel industry is once again facing significant pressure due to ongoing supply chain disruptions and sharply rising energy costs. At the same time, the expected economic recovery is being slowed by structural challenges such as labor shortages and insufficient equipment, further increasing the pressure on companies. Whether the industry, particularly in international competition, can remain competitive in the long term will largely depend on how it responds to these conditions.

One possible approach is to relocate parts of apparel manufacturing back to Europe and make production economically viable again. Bringing production and recycling closer to end markets can significantly shorten transport routes and reduce CO₂ emissions, overproduction, and waste. However, this shift requires a higher degree of automation in textile processing in order to ensure efficiency and long-term competitiveness.
