Bolt picking x-elect with Mikado

With the new x-elect automatic screw feeding system, Dürr is taking the automation of assembly concepts to the next level.

Highest precision, fewer manual steps, lower failure rate:

The core element of x-elect is Mikado Control and an Ensenso N35 3D camera permanently installed above the work area. This detects the screws in the container, selects them and feeds them to a screw nest without the need for a worker via a robot with the gripper developed by Dürr.

The advantage of x-elect: the screws are taken directly from the original transport packaging, which is why reloading and additional sorting or jogging stations are unnecessary in comparison with Pick&Place systems. This allows the system to quickly integrate new component variants without retooling. The entire "changeover process" consists only of selecting the next product. This eliminates sources of error and achieves a higher level of quality. The wide range of different screws that the system can handle reduces the space required on an assembly line, in some cases enormously. Further advantages are the high availability, the very quiet operation (compared to sorting containers) and the airless transport to the screwdriver - a very sustainable solution.

x-elect can also be used outside the "wedding" area, the central assembly station where the body is bolted to the chassis of a car. This is because the flexibility of the system also makes the automation of small batch sizes attractive.

Based on the simulation environment integrated in Mikado Control, the automatic screw feed system makes it possible to simulate and test integration into an existing station with all its functions using virtual commissioning. This means that not only can different cell designs be tried out. It is also possible, without expensive prototyping, to test grippers and modify and optimize them until they grip the intended parts perfectly. Only this gripper optimized in the simulation is then manufactured. Users can thus optimize their station layout in advance and prepare for smooth integration.

Additional added value is created by Industrie 4.0-compliant interfaces for peripheral systems and data utilization for the IIoT.

Our partner Dürr Assembly Products GmbH:

a Dürr AG company, is part of the Paint and Final Assembly Systems division and supplies products, systems and equipment for demanding assembly and testing tasks in final assembly in the automotive industry from its sites in Püttlingen and Shanghai.

In the field of final assembly, Dürr Assembly Products' x-gun and x-bolt automatic screwdriving systems are a permanent fixture at many automobile manufacturers worldwide.

To further increase the flexibility and productivity of these successful screwdriving systems, Dürr has decided to integrate Mikado Control, an automatic screw assembly system, into its range of products. "x-elect", as the new family member is called, decisively increases the degree of automation in assembly concepts.
