Bin picking of highly polished rotors

For an automated assembly line, highly polished rotors had to be removed from a pallet bin. The parts are about the size of a fist and lie chaotically in the bin. Mikado finds the parts, checks for suitable gripping points and, in this case, moves a Kuka robot through the cell fully checked of collision by integrated path planning. There are two removal bays and the camera is moved back and forth using a linear axis.

A large assembly line for the automated production of fans at EBM papst requires frequent feeding of parts to be assembled. Optonic was able to provide attractive solutions at two points here.

The high-gloss rotors are fed chaotically in a pallet box. Each individual rotor must be found and picked in order to empty the crate completely. A Kuka robot with a magnetic gripper was used here. The bin picking cell has two removal bays and the camera is moved via a linear axis.

In addition to the rotor, the paddle wheels are also parts that are fed into the assembly process with the help of Optonic. The parts are removed using large linear gantries, as large distances have to be covered within the machine. To enable these gantries to move directly above the boxes, the camera had to be positioned far away to create enough space. The modular system of our ENSENSO cameras provided suitable solutions here.

Both applications are presented in the video.
