Bin picking of thin sheet metal parts

Thin sheet metal parts are sometimes delivered by the thousands in KLTs or pallet boxes. For subsequent processes such as machining or assembly, single sheets must now be fed in the correct position. Typical challenges include the fact that thin parts such as metal sheets offer few 3D structures for part matching due to the low material thickness. Furthermore, curved sheets can easily get caught during removal and the numerous overlaps between the parts mean that there are few gripping options.

Our Mikado Control Bundle uses the Ensenso brand's own 3D cameras. The C series or X series are particularly suitable for such applications. The high resolution ensures good detection, despite the thin part geometry. The integrated path planning and configurable prioritization of detections reduces the risk of parts becoming entangled with each other. Finally, the intuitive operation makes it easy to create many different grips in order to be able to remove detected parts. Our high-performance controller also ensures a good cycle time.
